  • San Francisco Art Institute 800 Chestnut Street San Francisco, CA, 94133 United States (map)

PhotoAlliance is delighted to announce the return of our lecture series, in person at the San Francisco Art Institute Osher Lecture Hall, with artist Shimon Attie and opening speaker Yesica Prado (this is a ticketed event).

This lecture will kick off the west coast debut of Shimon Attie’s Night Watch, a floating media arts installation traveling the San Francisco Bay, September 17 – 19, 2021, along the shorelines of San Francisco and Oakland.

As a reporter, Yesica Prado covers human rights, poverty, environmental justice, art, culture, immigration, and indigenous communities. Prado’s photography has been published in the L.A. Times, Huffington Post and KQED. Yesica is a first-generation Mexican immigrant. She has a master’s in journalism (M.J.) from the UC Berkeley Graduate School of Journalism, and a bachelor’s of fine art in photography from the University of Illinois at Chicago.

Shimon Attie is an internationally renowned visual artist. His artistic practice includes creating site-specific installations in public places, accompanying art photographs, immersive multiple-channel video and mixed-media installations for museums and galleries, and new media works. For two decades, Attie has made art that allows us to reflect on the relationship between place, memory and identity. In many of his projects, he engages local communities in finding new ways of representing their history, memory, and potential futures, and explores how contemporary media may be used to re-imagine new relationships between space, time, place and identity. He is particularly concerned with issues of loss, communal trauma and the potential for regeneration.

Tickets to this September 15th event are 20. and are available HERE

Night Watch is the Bay Area’s First 2021 Multi-City Art and Social Justice Event, featuring 3 Nights of Free Shoreline Viewings and Activations and 40+ Partnering Organizations – Free Events, Talks, and Exhibitions.
